weekending

Ah, the weekend! Our weekends usually stretch fromThursdays to Sundays since the boys are only at the kindergarden three days a week. Its so nice to have a stretch of many days together just hanging about and doing what we want.

We enjoyed the outdoors a little less these days since it has been very cold, close to -20 degrees and so we are only out a for bit while taking trucks for a walk and to see the Sun once again.

Otherwise lots of indoor time but now that the light is back we do not feel it as heavy as when the darkness was constant. Crafting, painting, building and even some football camps in our long living room.

I am leaving next Wednesday to Tromsø for a course and will be away for ten days. The Mr. will be in charge of house and children. It will be strange to be away for so long but I must take this course before I go on maternity leave. I must admit it will also be nice to be alone for some days in spite of the course going on every day from 9 am to 4 pm. I am hoping on catching up on some needed sleep and to shop some clothes for the boys in the "big" city. In our town there is only one shop to buy clothes and it is not very good.

Not sure I will pop in here until I am back, I don't think I will have anything exciting to report during my trip except hopefully lots of knitting and boring new concepts on the philosophy of ethics in science.

Just a few images from the light today. So orange and beautiful.

I have been watching recently some very good films, but very hard at the same time. Not having television reception allows us to watch a lot of movies. The last one was Biutiful. Such a hard story, so sad and so real. It makes me appreciate even more living off the grid, away from big cities, and being able to give my children a peaceful upbringing.

I think we will do some baking tomorrow, some cinnamon muffins. I have had during this whole pregnancy strong urges to eat cinnamon and I think I must just indulge myself (and the boys!) tomorrow!

we saw the sun

We saw the Sun today after two months since it dissapeared below the horizon!
It was only just peeping above the trees,but it was there.
Everything seems so much lighter now.

-We made "sunbuns" to welcome the Sun back. We still haven't seen the Sun but it is officially back although it doesn't rise above the trees yet. I am thinking next weekend we will finally see it!

-We ate dropped scones from this book both Saturday and Sunday.

-The boys sled and snow surfed down the barn ramp, so much fun!

-We went to give some food to the roe deer who live in the forest and who struggle to find food during the cold winters here.

I also knitted not one but two tiny hats this weekend! More on that tomorrow. I am feeling extremely productive recently, at least in the knitting front! I am also making progress on my manuscript which I hope to finish next week. It will be a long week with me working against the clock and pappa away on business trip!

But we just might see the Sun after two months without it so it will all be fine!

puerperium

Here is my latest completed knitting project. Not quite sure what Puerperium means but that is the name of this little cardigan (ravelry). It turned out a bit bigger than new born, maybe three months I guess since my gauge was a little bit off.

I am finding it quite challenging to knit in colors which are neutral and in picking buttons that are genderless as well. During my other two pregnancies I knew I was expecting baby boys and it seemed just so easy to pick blues and earth colors. On the other hand it is nice to choose plain and simple colors like beige, white or yellow. I suppose if this baby turns out to be a girl I will be buying a few girlie colors of yarn and get going with some more girlie patterns (like this, or this). 

Otherwise I have been working a lot this week. I am nearly finished with the first article from my PhD and hope to send it to the other co-authors and then in a couple of weeks to a journal for publication. I feel the day has not enough hours (specially when I am doing statictics...) and find myself quite exhausted at the end of the evening cuddled up with some knitting and going to bed at 8.30. But this too shall pass and I know I have to give a bit more of myself during this time before I go on maternity leave at the end of March.

And we are finally welcoming the Sun back to these latitudes! Maybe we will get a glimpse of it this weekend...

We had two grumpy boys on saturday, not sure why, so there was lots of warm showers and water playing which gets them in a good mood.

Sunday was peaceful again but with cold temperatures so we were outside only for an hour before our toes started freezing!

on skis

I finally found the yarn to knit the Mr. a sweater. It helped it was 50% reduced and that it is a combination of two colors which should give the sweater a tweedy look. I suppose I should aim at getting it finished by next winter. I have only one project going on now and I need to start making longies soon!

Otherwise we finally got the skis out for the boys. Erik is a litte skeptical yet to have something as foreign as skis on his feet, but he will no doubt come around once he sees how much fun Matias has. We hope to spend some time this weekend outside practicing.

a crock pot question

Just a couple of random pictures to ask you a question about crock pots.

I just purchased one on a super sale (70% reduced!!!) last week and I am very eager to try it. I have been wanting to buy one for a while but the price has always kept me from doing it. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a crock pot book recipe or blog? I have searched a little but there are so many books I don't know which one to get! I am loving the idea of leaving the house and having dinner ready when getting back, specially the days I am at work.

P.S. There you a have a little glimpse of the baby bump taken today at 27 weeks! Time is flying by and should take more pictures of this growing belly of mine.

for the boys

I finally got a couple of pictures of these boys of mine wearing their Christmas cardigans. I had to wait til they were having a bite to get a photo of them without it being blurry. Winter photography light really sucks!

The pattern is from pickles (of course!) (ravelry link). I used their own yarn, pickles soft merino and then some worsted abuelita for the stripes. I made a 5-6 year old size which is a little too big for Matias and a 1-2 year old for Erik which fits him perfectly now and will soon be too small.... but no worries, with another baby on the way the cardigan will be used!

And I think this concludes the round of knits I had to show! I am working now on something for myself and yet another little something for baby. I am really itching to make a shawl since I don't have any but there is so many out there.... And then my goal for february is to make lots of longies from the picky pants pattern. Now that I remember I have actually already knit one pair and haven't shown you yet, so the round of 2011 finished knits is not over yet!!
